  • Detail

PPG was awarded 3million dollars by the U.S. Department of energy to promote photovoltaic coating technology on March 7, 2011, Pittsburgh - PPG Industries Inc. (NYSE Code: PPG) recently announced that it had received a grant worth $3.1 million from the U.S. Department of energy. This grant belongs to one of the $20million pre solar experiment checks by the U.S. Department of energy to see if there is abnormal sound and vibration energy technology to clean the equipment table and cover the machine clothes, It is used to develop the materials, coating design and process flow required for the production of a new type of glass. This new product is mainly used in cadmium telluride (CdTe) module manufacturing industry

cadmium telluride is a kind of coating that helps to improve the performance of photovoltaic glass. Jamesmccamy, manager of PPG solar energy technology department, said that the new glass will perfectly combine the three innovative technologies, and plans to reduce the production cost of cadmium telluride modules by 17% by 2015. "This will be an important step for the solar industry to move towards gridpower (the cost of solar power is reduced to the same as that of traditional power generation)." He added that it had become the largest 3D printout to date

this grant is part of the US Department of energy's US $20million "solar technology project (setp)" investment. The funds obtained by PPG will be distributed through the "photovoltaic industry supply chain and cross domain technology" project. The project aims to accelerate the R & D process of advanced photovoltaic products or processes with the help of relevant technologies of non solar companies

ppg company said that the research and development of the technology and process of the project will be led by PPG solar energy technology group. The second generation photovoltaic technology center of Colorado State University and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee (managed by UT Battelle entrusted by the U.S. Department of energy) will also participate in the project
